Hello all,
We had the idea to do summary of the podcasts in blog form, for quick and easy info.
Quick pod update, Lewis has joined the podcast team!! Lewis and Grace have been hosting podcasts down in London and Meg and Dan continued doing ones in Nottingham.
Season 3 episode 1,
lets get into this...

Summary:
Dan and Lew highlight some of the main issues the next generation face:
Image - grown up on social media since they were younger than us. They care a lot about their image so are more willing to change their beliefs or how they are perceived to fit in.
They have unlimited access to more things that can be super damaging and detrimental to them. The internet has only increased this.
Lack of opportunity for them. Companies are less likely to hire people with no experience but how do they get that experience in a first place
“The most exciting thing about the next generation is seeing their potential play out”
They are resilient! Lewis had come into contact with many young people who are refugees who have managed to track across countries and boarders to get to safety and their resilience shines through!
Youth work is a weird dynamic, you’re a mentor, not their teacher and not their friend but a weird in between.
Being consistent is the best thing you can do for these young people.
3 things we learnt:
NEAT is ‘not in educational training’- these are the young people on the edge of society, not accessing any sort of education.
Drop shipping- People will buy a whole stock of something online and then selling it on for profit back on Amazon - they see the internet in a completely different way to how we do/did and are completely utilising the internet and their initiative.
Male role models are so important in youth work as majority of teachers are women and so for some kids they may not have male role models in their life. They can be one of very few male influences in a young persons life.
Challenge:
Find a youth work charity and donate to them
