Navigating depression, anxiety and seeking help

Season 3 episode 7,

Let's get into this...

Summary:

Georgie ended up feeling guilty for feeling low and almost felt like she didn’t have a reason to feel like this.

Georgie would withdraw from situations and felt drained from putting a front on and didn’t feel excitement for anything

She felt that society had said ‘you can’t have therapy unless you have trauma’

But once she reached out and found a therapist she continued it weekly for 8 months and had such a big impact for her.

Georgie doesn’t think it should be this taboo, you shouldn’t wait until rock bottom- it helps give you tools so you can avoid rock bottom.

Georgie started a short course of anti-depressants and it made her feel like a failure. But they helped when make big decisions like moving city. They helped with the big move and then she stopped taking them - defo helped and changed her life making that move.

Grace suffered from anxiety - specifically around the fear of being sick.

The anxiety controlled everything and grace ended up picking up habits that she could live without like sleeping with a hot water bottle and going to bed after 11 because she thought that would help her not be sick.

Anxiety isn’t rational. She couldn’t help but feel these almost irrational fears.

Grace now barley thinks about the anxiety so there is freedom on the other-side!

For grace she took small steps and slowly took away the habits and then realised that without the habit she still wasn’t sick so was rewiring that anxiety in her mind

3 things we learnt:

Often people think you go to therapy and you come out this changed person and they fix all your problems but they give you tools to help you but you have to implement to help make a difference

You can’t control anything except your response to situations!
